Local Lifestyle

While West Lake Hills is often regarded as an Austin suburb, it’s actually an independent city dating back to the 1960s. With a population of just over 3,000, West Lake Hills is a small town in every sense of the word. This tight-knit community is known for its award-winning schools, Friday night football games, and locally-owned stores.

One of the many reasons residents love West Lake Hills is for its stunning topography. It boasts some of the area's highest concentrations of hillside homes and is known for its tree-lined streets and waterfront properties. West Lake Hills also has some of the most coveted real estate in Texas, with numerous multi-million-dollar properties throughout the area.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Of the many benefits of living in West Lake Hills, one of the biggest perks is its versatility. West Lake Hills is an unassuming place, yet it has tons of amenities residents love. Whether fine dining or international fare, you will find plenty of excellent restaurants in West Lake Hills.

One of the area’s most popular restaurants is The Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen. Chic and sophisticated, The Grove has modern American cuisine, signature thin-crust pizzas, and an impressive wine list. Hang out on their outdoor patio with Live Oak Trees adorning every angle for a fun night out with friends. And if you love Thai food, check out Sway. Try some spicy signature dishes and their curry for an authentic Thai dining experience.

For some of the best Mexican food in the area, try Las Palomas Restaurant & Bar. Some of their most popular dishes include ceviche, fajitas, and fish tacos, among other specialties. West Lake Hills is also known for Rudy’s “Country Store” and Bar-B-Q, a popular barbeque restaurant chain. Try their brisket or pulled pork sandwiches, and don’t forget to use their automatic hand-washing machine, my favorite.

Things to Do

If you love being in the great outdoors, there’s no better place to be than West Lake Hills. With its easy access to parks and nature preserves, you will be closer than ever to your next outdoor adventure. One of Austin’s most popular outdoor activities is the Barton Creek Greenbelt, the heart of Austin’s elaborate trail system. The Greenbelt is popular with cyclists, hikers, and joggers throughout the city, and a large part of the trail system runs through West Lake Hills.

West Lake Hills is also the home to Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, one of the Austin area’s most beloved nature parks. Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is known for its eco-diversity and beautiful nature trails. Other popular nature parks include Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park which is most popular for 4th of July celebrations, and Red Bud Isle.
